Adolescent health has always been a low priority for low-middle income health systems, making adolescents a largely unreached and excluded segment of the population. This article reports on the status of adolescents in urban India. It builds an understanding of both cause and effect of their status. It further highlights how adolescents face a myriad of issues such as lifestyle diseases, malnutrition, early marriage, poor hygiene while lacking access to health services. The article also outlines the impact of major adolescent health programs launched by the GOI, and recommendations for broadening and deepening health interventions designed for this age group.
