The article provides an overview of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMH) conditions in India and measures currently underway to address mental health challenges. It highlights variations in mental illnesses based on geography, age, socio-economic background, and provides recommendations on how to address the current gaps in the treatment of mental illnesses. It proposes policy-level changes that can help mitigate the social and economic burden of mental illness amongst the world's largest population of adolescents. This paper is specifically relevant for policymakers and mental health program implementors at the national and state level.
